1. BRASS RING STARTS A MUSEUM QUALITY RESTORATION FOR THE STATE OF NEW
YORK
Brass Ring is proud to announce the start of a new carousel project. The
restoration of the carousel owned by the New York State Museum. This
historic carousel traveled all around the NY area in the 1880s through
the 1940s. It first started out as a steam operated Dare carousel. In
the 20s the owners purchased a jumping frame from Herschell Spillman.
Brass Ring working with Rosa Ragan has found traces of the original
paint under the many layers of park paint. Rosa has extensive knowledge
of the original style of paint used by Dare from her work at the
Martha’s Vineyard carousel. This carousel will be brought back to the
original colors and stenciling. Some of the original paint will be saved
on the Spillman chariots. This will be one of only a hand full of
machines in the original paint colors from the factory. Forever this
machine will be as it was from the factory.

2. THE SAN FRANCISCO ZOO CAROUSEL GETS STRIPPED
Brass Ring is very fortunate to be located in Los Angeles. The many
resources can’t be counted. One of the best in the carousel world is Los
Angeles Stripping and Refinishing. Two brothers Rand and Zennon own this
shop. L A Stripping has done hundreds of animals. Their knowledge of how
to do the job correctly makes the difference in the final product. Their
personal attention to each piece is unmatched. Every time we go to pick
up new pieces were amazed at the quality.

3. ELK CITY OKLAHOMA’S CAROUSEL BUILDING GETS STARTED
On the way back from NY with the Museum carousel Brass Ring stopped by
to visit the site for the Elk City Carousel. Work has started and going
on schedule. The amazing thing is the building! Click the link below to

What a setting! The building is in a huge park reaching out into a pond.
There is a train ride on one side and across the street is a block of
museum. One of which is a route 66 museum. This month the frame gets
stood up at the shop. Watch the website for updates and photos.

4. MALL CAROUSELS INC. GETS A FACE LIFT ON THEIR CAROUSEL IN LAKEWOOD,
CA
Mall Carousels Inc. is the largest single operator of carousels in the
US. The owner Bill Kehoe asked Brass Ring to give their carousel in
Lakewood CA a fresh look. After over a million riders it needed some
touch-up on the horses (thanks to Chicago area artist, Ary, who worked
several late-nighters, helping get the job done on time). Going in after
hours Brass Ring added new greaseless bearings and touch-upped the
horses. Now it’s as good as new ready for the next million visitors. If
you’re in the Southern CA areaand want to visit a great mall and
carousel, Lakewood is the place.

5. SAN FRANCISCO’S GOLDEN GATE PARK TO GET A NEW OPERATOR
While doing our normal spring maintenance on the carousels in Northern
CA we were able to meet the new operators of the Golden Gate Park
Carousel. Although they don’t start for a couple of weeks, we gave them
a thorough run through. We were amazed at their enthusiasm and ideas.
There will be great things happening at the carousel. Private party
rentals, children’s parties, enlarged concession stand and much much
more are starting soon. Thanks to Pam Hessey the carousel paint was
touched-up and looks like new again. The new crankshafts, gears and
bearings needed no attention. The band organ will need a little work to
keep it going for another year. It’s up and running again, so enjoy it
for the summer.

6. CAROUSEL.COM AND BRASS RING’S FREE CLASSIFIEDS KEEPS GROWING
We are amazed at the results from our free classifieds. Thank you for
all of your emails!!!! This is the largest free site to sell all of your

knick knacks. We are very happy to give the carousel community a place

error don’t despair. Carousel.com has grown to the largest carousel site
on the Internet. Our server couldn’t handle the traffic. Over the
holidays we have upgraded and there shouldn’t be a problem soon.
Currently thousands of people are coming to carousel.com every day. We
should be ok until this number turns into tens of thousands per day.

SORRY FOR THE DELAY IN THE NEWSLETTER
Brass Ring is a little a late with this newsletter. We are currently
restoring three large carousels, two of which are back to original paint
specifications. If that wasn’t enough we have the new carousel with
wooden horses from Ed Roth for Elk City OK. To say the least, we are a
little swamped in the shop right now!!!! To add to this are all of our
faithful customers that depend on us to get them ready for summer. We
want to thank ALL of them for being patient with us this spring. Please
